DUI among charges

Yorkville police arrested Samuel Powell, 21, of the 3800 block of Creekside Court, Sandwich, at 10:11 p.m. on Dec. 26 on charges of driving under the influence, and also cited him for improper lane usage, following a single-vehicle crash where police said the vehicle he was driving left the road and struck a brick mailbox in the 200 block of West Kendall Drive.

Vehicle goes into pond

Yorkville police responded to the area of Kennedy Road and Mill Road at 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 27 for a report of a traffic accident and discovered that a vehicle driven by Natasha Stewart, 36, of the 2900 block of Manchester Drive, Montgomery, had lost control and went off the roadway into a pond. Police said Stewart escaped and was not injured. The vehicle was towed from the pond, police said.

Accident with injuries

Yorkville police cited a Sandwich man in a two-vehicle crash on Route 34 at McHugh Road at 12:55 p.m. on Dec. 26 in which the driver of the other vehicle was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora for treatment of minor injuries. Brian P. Wafford, 39, of the 3000 block of Sandwich Road, Sandwich, was cited for failure to yield – turning left following a crash in which police said Wafford’s pickup truck was traveling east on Route 34 turning north onto McHugh Road when the truck failed to yield to a Mazda sedan traveling west on Route 34. The driver of the Mazda, a Somonauk man, was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center for treatment of injuries, police said. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, police said.

Fraud report

Yorkville police took a report from a resident of the 4500 block of Garritano Street at 10:12 a.m. on Dec. 28 who told police he noticed various debits totaling $6,770 from his checking account that were not authorized starting at the end of August of 2018. Police said he closed the account with his bank and completed a police report for the loss.

Stolen car located in Evergreen Park

Yorkville police took a report of a stolen vehicle in the 200 block of Bertram Drive at 7:40 p.m. on Dec. 29. The vehicle was later located in Evergreen Park, police said.

Hit and run parked vehicles

Yorkville police took a report of a parked 2003 Toyota Corolla that was struck by an unknown vehicle on Landmark Avenue near Marketplace Drive between 8 p.m. on Dec. 28 and 9 a.m. on Dec. 29. The Toyota received moderate damage but was unoccupied, police said. The incident is under investigation, police said.

Yorkville police also took a report of a 2013 Ford F250 pickup truck being struck by an unknown vehicle in the 1900 block of Marketview Drive between 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 28 and noon on Dec. 29 causing minor damage to the driver’s side door.
